Map of Welsh Trunk Road Agency Areas

About Us

In April 2005 the Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency was formed as a partnership between Powys County Council and Ceredigion County Council.

This was part of a rationalisation of the former trunk road agents from eight down to three.

This meant changes to the boundaries of the agencies to be more logical in terms of highway usage and maintenance. Previous agency boundaries had tended to be on a county boundary which is an invisible and meaningless to the majority of highway users. Under the new agencies the majority of boundaries are much more defined being on major roundabouts or national borders.

The new area covers all of Powys and Ceredigion as well as a large area of Carmarthenshire as well as small areas in Merthyr, Pembrokeshire and Gwynedd.

The Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency manage the maintenance of almost 700 Kms of highway. Coordinating any required works with the environmental considerations, the needs of the highway user, local businesses and other stakeholders is managed by the team.

Safety Inspections are carried out on a regular basis to ensure that any defects that may cause danger to highway users are identified and repaired  as soon as practicable.

We also manage the maintenance of amost 400 structures. These take the form of bridges, culverts  and retaining walls. The agency carries out cyclic inspections of these structures to ensure they continue to be fit for purpose and to identify maintenance requirements.
